Description:

Good Evening Wheelies: Yes, there will be a Granite Bay ride this Saturday. The long route is 44 miles with 2300' of climbing and will take us out to Lincoln and up Ridge Rd.. The short route is 26 miles with 1450' of climbing and climbs through the lower foothills to Newcastle. Both routes will stop for coffee at Newcastle Produce.  Both routes begin and end at Granite Bay Community Park, located on the corner of Douglas Blvd and Barton Rd. 8:00 socialization, 8:15 sign-in, 8:30 pedals down. Please note: Last Saturday we had 43 riders sign-in. It's critical that as we start out up Barton Rd and beyond, that we ride SINGLE FILE. I appreciate that most of you are very aware of the need to ride single file and to try to minimize our impact on local traffic. Regretfully, an unruly group of cyclists from the UC Davis Medical Center cycling team decided to pass us as we were starting up Barton Rd. They ignored our repeated requests to ride single file and as a result, blocked a long line of traffic. That practice not only gives cycling a bad name but it also puts all of us at risk of impatient drivers making poor decisions as they pass us. Please pay attention, ride safely and respect the traffic that shares the road with us. Thank you.

-Steve.
